Job description:

Liase with the SPL and camping chair - Dan and Heidi

  • sign-ups done 2 weeks or more in advance. NO LATE signups. We need a final headcount and roster by the Monday night before the campout.
  • sufficient adult supervision
  • scouts prep for trip. Announcements and training. What to gear bring.
  • accomodation/feeding logistics are complete (camp site/lodge/hotel booked, meals are planned)
  • transportation logistics complete - drivers assigned, departure and arrival place/time finalized.

One set of clothes on your body and one change of clothing in with kitchen trash bag in stuff sack. Cotton is okay, but body armor or similar fabrics dry quicker, plus keep you warmer when wet.

Toilet paper (enough for weekend only with some type of digging devise (plastic shovel, tent stake, something to dig cat hole). TP can also be used for clean up of dishes.

Troop challenge

Troop competition - designed to test skills by competition (games with a purpose)

Some ideas :
  • orienteering course
  • emergency scenario - first aid exercise
  • riddle to solve.
  • build a flagpole and raise a flag
  • go blindfolded through a maze with only scout allowed to speak.
  • Relay carrying an egg while doing something else

camping - July 2007

What : Tubing, Helen, Ga. Camped at Sleepy Hollow campground.
12 scouts, 3 adults attended.

Fun campout - included a lot of cooking, games, camp fire, rank advancements; Camping merit badge was worked on by the older scouts. A service project was conducted by the leadership to clean up a campsite that had been trashed by a suspected racoon.

General Camp Equipment List

Each camper is provided a canvas, two person tents on a wooden platform and an army style cot. Thefollowing list of recommended items, remember your Scout is camping for seven days and six nights. All items must be marked with Scouts’ last name and troop number.
Each Scout should have a foot locker, Lowes, Container Store, and Home Depot have them. A lock for the foot locker, combinations is best. A copy of the combination or Key will be turned into the Troopat Check In.

What not to bring to camp…
  • Aerosol spray of any kind, Lighters, Pocket Knife if a first year Scout, gas lantern, hats or tee shirts with Non‐Scouting logos (plain is acceptable), tobacco material of any kind.
What to bring to Camp…
  • A great SCOUTING attitude be ready for learning, fellowship, and fun.
